Detox before Summer

With the start of Summer it is time to detox and up the exercise in order to feel good all around. Yoga and Pilates classes are focusing on core strength, leg and butt shaping, as well as toning the arms. It is so good to feel strong!

It’s time to eat crunchy salads, grilled fish, fresh fruit and nuts. Accumulated toxins can be removed through the lungs with deep breathing and through the skin (sweating). Twisting poses also help the inner organs to squeeze and rejuvenate. Drink a full glass of water or two as soon as you wake up and then remember to stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day. This will help you to stay energized and also keep your muscles and fascia healthy.

During stretches in class we contract and then release our muscles which stimulates the whole fascial system in the body. When our fascia become too tight (either from doing too much exercise or too little) we can feel pain and tension more and are more prone to injury. We often use tennis balls in class to release these tight areas and increase circulation to the whole body. It is like having a massage… a strong one! ;))

Getting outside is an easy way to feel good. Remember to take a walk in the garden, park or beach and appreciate nature. Obtaining enough vitamin D through exposure to sunlight is necessary for your bones, skin and your mood! Next week Beach Yoga will be on! Being barefoot on the sand grounds your energy and is also good for all the muscles in your feet.

During our Kombucha making workshop a couple of weeks ago we learned about how this ancient fermented tea is great for your digestion. It contains B vitamins and digestive enzymes. It is easy to make at home as long as you have some starter – which everyone got from the workshop, tea and sugar or honey. It is detoxifying and increases your energy too. If you would like to find out more we can perhaps organize another session.

Look out for the next workshop on making water Kefir. It contains more probiotics than yogurt. Your health starts on the inside and research is finding that restoring your beneficial gut flora helps everything from IBS, allergies, general inflammation and more.

Balance is a theme in Yoga, Pilates and Life in general. We balance strength and flexibility, strong poses with restorative ones and always rest after a workout.

Seeing as balance and moderation are so lovely we will certainly have some cocktails with our Kefir J

See the photos attached from the workshop.
