Spring is here albeit a cold one and we have been doing some footwork in classes to give us a "spring in our step".
Working the many muscles in the feet provides us with a solid base, better balance and keeps our arches healthy too.
The Flat Tummies workshop on 14 March 2017seemed to be enjoyed by all. The first part was all about exercises to keep the abdominals toned, working specifically the Transverse Abdominus muscle which is deep work. We then proceeded to do a few poses for digestion and twists for detoxification all targeting the belly area. Finally the inner work... as no amount of abdominal exercises will keep a belly flat if there is incomplete or sluggish elimination! So we talked about probiotics and made some Pickle.
Everyone tried the Pickle, which is similar to Saurkraut and enjoyed it so much that some already made their own that afternoon. See the photos below of the workshop.
It is a homemade fermented food using just cabbage, carrot and salt and water. The vegetables ferment themselves allowing the lactobacilli (present on the surface of all living things) to mulitiply, producing lactic acid. This lactic acid is beneficial to digestion. The vitamin content of the preserved vegetables are also increased, the enzyme content of the food is enhanced, and it also improves the digestibility to the foods eaten with it!
