One of my best friends (Cheryl) died of cancer two weeks ago, leaving two beautiful children and a lovely husband behind. She was 45, in the prime of her life really. And seeing all her tributes and memories shared from people who knew her, I was not the only one to think that she was wonderful, gracious and caring- a true earth angel. We can wonder how it happens that such good people die so young.

It reminds me of what a little boy said after his dog died. Something like "people need to learn to live a good life by being loving all the time and being nice to everyone. Dogs already do this and that is why they do not have to live that long".

Last week we had the privilege of looking after a puppy for three days. It was love at first sight for us. Living in a high rise flat in Hong Kong we have avoided getting pets, even though many of our neighbours have even big dogs. This little dog got into all our hearts and was so cute, cuddly and affectionate. Also, quite fierce for its size. I later heard that it's daily companion is a rottweiler... thus its fearless attitude towards bigger dogs. Pets really can bring a family closer together. We played with it together, walked it together and laughed at her antics. An added bonus was that my teenage daughter came straight home from school both days!! No hanging out necessary.

I look forward to the puppy's next visit!!
