Is Less really More?

This really applies to exercise and pushing oneself physically. Getting into fitness in the 80s and 90s, we would cycle 50 km before breakfast, teach a couple of aerobics classes during the day, and finish off with a weights session before dinner (and possibly a party until late). Side effects from this moreish routine included impaired immunity, chronic fatigue and a wiry sore body. Billy Idol even sang about "more more more" in the midnight hour and those lycra G-strings over lycra tights certainly signaled an era of more being more.
So now Less is More... Deepak Chopra says if you can walk five miles until you get tired, do half of that in order to have more energy for the other important functions of digestion, concentration and sleep.
You could ask yourself: How little exercise do I need to do in order to stay healthy, shapely and happy? In Yoga and Pilates we balance flexibility and strength. It depends also on your personal energy level how much exercise you choose to do. Listen to your body on this one. In my case I most things I love to do are physically active eg, walking on the beach, dancing, and of course Yoga/Pilates. It is then a matter of limiting these activities just like one would limit other enjoyable things like food and wine!! And now that we are looking after the cutest puppy for a friend my walking has also increased.
Speaking of energy levels Dr Joe Dipenza has a wonderful saying: "Where your attention goes, your energy flows".
Think of how much we focus on outer things and thus our energy flows out from us. Taking time to focus that attention inward towards the body and the breath enables energy to restore within the body and thus allows healing to occur. Just feeling your feet or your hands from the inside every now and then throughout the day will change your energy levels for the better.
Back to puppy love... is less more here? Just because she is going back to her real mommy next week doesn't mean she is going to get any less love. So in the case of love... MORE is MORE!
